AI TECHNOLOGY AT CORE OF
NEW IMAGING PLATFORM FROM EXO
EXO TECHNOLOGY TO HELP HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
DELIVER BETTER, FASTER AND MORE ACCURATE CARE
REDWOOD CITY, CA, January 13, 2019 — Having recently secured $35M in Series B funding, Exo (pronounced “Echo”) Imaging is now accelerating its efforts to develop innovative technologies that will simplify, streamline and increase accessibility to medical imaging through the power of artificial intelligence (AI). Exo is implementing a comprehensive AI strategy to support its mission of providing flexible, high-performance ultrasound imaging that is affordable and easy to use.
“Our goal at Exo is to make medical imaging accessible by making it low cost, easy to use and provide actionable health data,” said Exo Imaging CEO and Co-Founder Sandeep Akkaraju. “Embedded AI in devices changes the delivery of care. From enabling clinicians with convenient, high-quality imaging where and when they need it, to providing entire health systems better capabilities for capturing, analyzing, and synthesizing critical health data.”
To help commercialize its AI platform, Exo has hired Miles Wernick, a leading expert on AI in medical imaging, with 35 years of AI experience in both industry and academia.
Wernick has been principal investigator for multicenter studies, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spanning cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, mammography and musculoskeletal disease. In addition to his medical imaging R&D, Wernick worked for a decade with law enforcement agencies to leverage AI technology to analyze crime to enhance social-services programs.
“We need experts like Miles in order to create new data-driven solutions that will dramatically re-define the boundaries, accessibility and accuracy of healthcare around the world,” adds Akkaraju, who recently participated in a panel discussion hosted by Intel about the use of AI in medical imaging at the annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago.
AI is transforming the healthcare industry through innovations in clinical research, the development of technology and drugs, training for medical practitioners, and ultimately in the delivery of care. Exo Imaging is developing AI technology that will:
Make ultrasound more accessible and easier to use,
Ensure that ultrasound imaging and procedures are performed accurately and reliably, and
Provide valuable information in support of clinicians’ diagnostic evaluations.
